Katsina First Lady Reaffirms Commitment To Safety Of Schools

The Katsina State First Lady Zulaihat Dikko Radda on Thursday reaffirmed collective commitment to the welfare and safety of all educational institutions across the state.

Mrs Radda gave the assurance at the Banquet Hall of the Katsina Government House on Thursday when she flagged off a three-day capacity-building training on safe school declaration, basic first aid, and evacuation techniques for teachers and students.

She explained that the program organized by her pet project “Safe Space Humanitarian Initiative (SASHIN)” in collaboration with the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MBASE) and Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), marks their commitment to fostering a secured and conducive learning environment for their beloved children.

According to her, “this crucial initiative” focuses on ensuring the safety and security of various schools, teachers, and students. She stated that the training underscores their collective unwavering dedication to preparedness and proactive measures in safeguarding the educational institutions in the State.

“It becomes necessary for us to equip our students and teachers with vital skills and knowledge to help them overcome potential challenges and emergencies.

"The importance of a safe school can not be overstated, hence ensuring the safety of our children is paramount.

“Additionally, our students will be empowered with know how to act swiftly and confidently during unforeseen circumstances.

“The collaboration between SASHI, State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and AGILE symbolizes the strength of partnership in driving positive change.

“Together, we reaffirm our collective commitment to the welfare and safety of our educational institutions.

“My pet project has a keen interest in education, health and climate change in assisting the less privileged, physically challenged as well as women and children,” she noted.

Earlier in her welcome address, the State Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education Hadiza Abubakar Yar’adua described the training as a welcome development as it will empower participants on safety approaches focused on prevention, intervention, and response to issues of Basic First Aid and Evacuation Techniques.

“Today, you all are not just participants in a workshop; you are safety champions.

“I’ll also like to take this moment to express my gratitude to the First Lady, Her Excellency, Hajiya Zulaihat Dikko Radda, for her unwavering support towards securing the future of Katsina, one child at a time.

“It is indeed a privilege to be associated with such a remarkable personality who recognizes the pivotal role such an initiative plays in shaping the destiny of our society.

“I’m confident that the organizers have put everything in place to ensure a pragmatic learning experience. I look forward to how this training will cascade to our various schools and how the leadership of our schools will provide clear leadership in coordinating the various stakeholders to achieve safe, secure, and violence-free schools.

“Our schools must develop risk management and mitigation plans to build resilience and enable stakeholders to cope with hazards when they occur”, Yar’adua added.

In his keynote address, the AGILE Project Coordinator Dr Mustapha Shehu announced that through this partnership so many poor girls are going to realize their dreams in education.

The aim, he explained, is to reach 19,000 girls and 17,000 boys before July 1st, 2025 when the first leg of the project will have been completed.

He, also, thanked the state first lady for her commitment to basic and secondary Education in the state.
